Sodium bicarbonate should not ever be taken as an antacid and/or sports supplement

Updated: Mar 1

Sodium bicarbonate combines sodium with HCO3- (bicarbonate). Bicarbonate where taken could dysregulate biotin dependent enzymes which require bicarbonate and carbamoyl phosphate synthetase I and carbamoyl phosphate synthetase II which also require bicarbonate. Bicarbonate could initially upregulate bicarbonate dependent enzymes but there would be countervailing steps that result in hypermethylations of genetic loci closely connected to biotin dependent enzymes resulting in decreases in biotin dependent enzymes and decreases in synthesis of orotate and citrulline. See this post.

Effects of bicarbonate on carbamoyl phosphate synthetase II could be particularly pernicious. See this post. Sodium bicarbonate should not ever by taken as an antacid and/or sports supplement and I underline ever.
