NAD has an oxidized form, NAD+, and a reduced form, NADH where the NAD+/NADH ratio highly favors NAD+. Supplemental nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) would increase NAD+ levels shifting bodies systematically towards oxidations which would have deleterious effects. Increasing reactive oxygen species in gastrointestinal tracts can be of assistances, however, oxidized species increased systematically can have very deleterious effects.
